Marine Generators Depot supplies marine generators, replacement parts and accessories from a range of established manufacturers. Warranty coverage is therefore provided primarily under the applicable manufacturer’s written warranty, rather than under one universal Marine Generators Depot warranty.
Warranty periods can differ by manufacturer, model, engine or generator-end component, recreational versus commercial use, operating hours, country of operation and commissioning requirements. The brand summary below reflects the standard manufacturer information available as of this policy’s effective date. The exact written warranty identified in the quotation, order documentation, or warranty certificate supplied for the specific product always controls.
1. Manufacturer Warranty Coverage by Brand
| Brand | Standard Manufacturer Warranty Summary |
|---|---|
| Kohler / Rehlko Marine Generators | Warranty is model- and market-specific. Marine generator warranty terms are confirmed on the quotation or applicable manufacturer warranty certificate before purchase. Marine units should not be assumed to carry the same warranty as Kohler/Rehlko residential standby products, for which Rehlko publishes different warranty programs. |
| Cummins Onan Marine Generators | Covered by the applicable Cummins marine-generator warranty for the specific model and application. Cummins describes its marine generator warranty support as worldwide and requires applicable warranty service to be handled through its authorized service network. Some current Cummins marine-generator families carry a 5-year/2,000-hour warranty, but this should not be assumed for every Onan model; the exact term will be confirmed for the unit being purchased. |
| Fischer Panda Marine Generators | Fischer Panda USA publishes a 5-year limited marine generator warranty. Years 1–2 provide parts, labor, and mileage coverage under the applicable terms; Year 3 provides parts coverage; Years 4–5 provide 50% parts coverage. Fischer Panda also publishes five-year coverage for specified electronic-control components and lifetime parts-and-labor coverage for the alternator rotor, subject to its detailed warranty conditions. |
| Lombardini Marine Generators | Lombardini Marine publishes 2 years for consumer/recreational gensets and 1 year for commercial gensets, with an available extension to 3 years subject to the manufacturer’s program and conditions. |
| Mase Marine Generators | Mase warranty coverage is model-, market- and application-specific. The exact warranty period and conditions supplied by Mase for the generator being purchased will be stated in the quotation/order documentation or manufacturer warranty documentation. Mase currently maintains separate recreational, commercial, and 60 Hz marine-generator ranges, so a single warranty term should not be assumed for every application. |
| MasPower Marine Generators | Warranty is confirmed according to the specific MasPower model and application. Current Mastry-published MasPower generator literature identifies a 2-year warranty on its current diesel generator range; legacy or marine-specific MasPower models may have different terms, so the warranty applicable to the actual unit supplied will be confirmed before purchase. |
| Nanni Marine Generators | Nanni products are covered under the applicable Silverwake warranty program. Published Silverwake terms distinguish recreational and professional applications; recreational engine coverage includes a 2+1-year limited extension for specified major components, while professional coverage is generally 1 year, subject to the detailed Silverwake conditions. Generator-end or other component coverage may differ, so the exact Nanni generator warranty supplied with the unit controls. |
| Next Gen Marine Generators | Warranty varies by generator model and component. Next Generation Power Engineering publishes a 3-year warranty on the Kubota engine used in specified marine generator sets. Generator-set and electrical-component warranty terms may differ and will be identified for the model being supplied. |
| Paguro Marine Generators | Published VTE/Paguro warranty terms identify 24 months for recreational use and 12 months for commercial use, generally subject to a maximum of 1,000 operating hours and the manufacturer’s installation and maintenance requirements. The current VTE warranty certificate supplied with the specific generator will control. |
| Phasor Marine Generators | Phasor Marine publishes a 5-year limited warranty on its marine generator sets, subject to the manufacturer’s warranty conditions, proper installation, operation and maintenance requirements. |
| VETUS Marine Generators | VETUS publishes 36 months or 2,000 operating hours, whichever occurs first, for 1500 RPM generator sets and 36 months or 1,500 hours for 3000 RPM generator sets. Certain major engine components receive an additional 24 months or 1,000 operating hours, whichever occurs first, under the VETUS 5 PLUS program. |
| Westerbeke Marine Generators | Current Westerbeke marine generator sets are advertised with a 5-year limited manufacturer warranty, subject to Westerbeke’s applicable warranty conditions. Parts and accessories can carry different warranty periods. |
| MER Commercial / BOLLARD Marine Generators | MER/BOLLARD commercial generators carry the applicable manufacturer warranty for the specific generator, engine and application. Because BOLLARD sets can be configured around different engines and commercial-duty requirements, warranty duration is confirmed in the project quotation and manufacturer documentation rather than represented as one universal period. MER manufactures BOLLARD generators and supports them through its service/dealer network. |
| Northern Lights Marine Generators | Selected Northern Lights marine generator sets up to 30 kW carry the manufacturer’s 1 + 4 Year Limited Warranty: the first 12 months with unlimited hours includes applicable parts and labor; an additional 48 months or 2,500 total operating hours, whichever occurs first, provides progressively limited coverage, including specified major components. Models outside the listed 1+4 program are covered by their applicable model-specific Northern Lights warranty. |
| Thornycroft Marine Generators | Thornycroft publishes 2 years for recreational use and 1 year for commercial, hire or charter applications, subject to commissioning, installation, maintenance and the manufacturer’s applicable warranty conditions. |
Important
The table above is a summary, not a replacement for the manufacturer’s complete written warranty.
Manufacturers may revise warranty programs, introduce model-specific coverage or impose different terms based on engine type, generator output, commercial duty, territory or date of manufacture. Marine Generators Depot will therefore confirm the applicable warranty for the particular generator when preparing the quotation or order documentation.
If there is any difference between this website summary and the written manufacturer warranty supplied for a specific product, the manufacturer’s applicable written warranty governs that manufacturer’s warranty obligations, subject to applicable law.
2. Recreational and Commercial Warranty Terms
Customers should tell us how the generator will be used when requesting a quotation.
Manufacturers frequently distinguish between:
Recreational use — privately operated boats and yachts primarily used for pleasure.
Commercial use — charter vessels, passenger craft, fishing vessels, workboats, rental vessels and other income-producing or high-hour applications.
A generator that qualifies for a multi-year recreational warranty may carry a shorter warranty when placed into commercial service. Lombardini, Northern Lights, Nanni and Thornycroft are examples of manufacturers whose published warranty structures distinguish application or duty conditions.
Marine Generators Depot should therefore be informed of the intended vessel application before the order is finalized.
3. When Warranty Coverage Begins
The warranty start date varies by manufacturer.
Depending on the brand, coverage may begin from:
- Date of retail sale or delivery;
- Date of installation;
- Date of commissioning or first use; or
- Another date defined by the manufacturer.
Some manufacturers also require product registration, commissioning information or an installation record before full warranty benefits can be established.
Customers should retain their Marine Generators Depot invoice, generator serial number, warranty certificate, installation documentation and maintenance records.
4. Warranty Registration and Commissioning
Where manufacturer registration is required, customers are responsible for providing the information necessary to complete registration unless Marine Generators Depot has specifically agreed in writing to perform that step.
Certain warranty programs also place importance on proper commissioning and application review. This is especially relevant for larger commercial generators and vessel-specific installations.
Marine generators form part of the vessel’s electrical, fuel, cooling, exhaust and ventilation systems. The generator should therefore be installed and commissioned in accordance with the applicable manufacturer’s instructions and applicable marine standards.
Final installation suitability remains the responsibility of the qualified installer or marine professional performing the installation.
5. What Manufacturer Warranties Generally Cover
Subject to the specific manufacturer’s written terms, warranties generally address defects in materials or workmanship arising during the applicable warranty period.
The available remedy may include repair, replacement of the defective component, replacement of the affected product or another remedy specified by the manufacturer.
Coverage of:
Parts, labor, technician travel, freight, removal and reinstallation varies substantially between manufacturers and between different years of multi-year warranty programs.
For example, Fischer Panda’s published five-year program changes the level of coverage after Years 1–2, while Northern Lights’ 1+4 program provides different coverage during successive warranty periods.
Customers should therefore not assume that a five-year warranty means identical parts-and-labor coverage for the entire five years.
6. Conditions Generally Not Covered
Unless the applicable manufacturer’s warranty states otherwise, warranty protection generally does not apply to failures resulting from normal wear, routine maintenance, incorrect installation, misuse, operation outside rated specifications, neglected maintenance, water ingestion, inadequate cooling-water supply, fuel contamination, incorrect electrical configuration, external corrosion, improper storage, accidental damage, unauthorized modification, freight damage or failures caused by another vessel system.
Consumable and routine service items—including filters, belts, raw-water impellers, zinc anodes, lubricants, coolant, seals and similar maintenance components—are normally considered service items rather than long-term warrantable components unless a manufacturing defect is established.
The exact exclusions stated by the applicable manufacturer always apply.
7. Warranty Service and Repair Authorization
If you believe a product has developed a warrantable defect, please contact Marine Generators Depot before authorizing substantial repairs whenever reasonably possible.
Certain manufacturers require warranty work to be performed through their authorized service network. Cummins, for example, directs Onan marine warranty work through authorized Cummins dealers/distributors or certified technicians.
Do not assume that independently authorized repairs, haul-out charges, generator removal, technician travel or replacement parts will automatically be reimbursed.
Where preauthorization is required by the manufacturer, repairs undertaken before authorization may affect reimbursement eligibility.
8. Submitting a Warranty Claim
To help us identify the product and direct the claim correctly, please provide:
- Customer or company name and Marine Generators Depot invoice/order number
- Generator manufacturer, exact model and serial number
- Date of purchase and, where applicable, commissioning date
- Current generator operating hours
- Description of the problem and any fault codes
- Clear photograph of the generator identification plate
- Photographs or video showing the reported issue where practical
- Vessel location
- Installation and maintenance records where relevant
Marine Generators Depot will review the information and advise whether additional documentation, manufacturer contact, technical inspection or service-center involvement is required.
Submitting a warranty enquiry does not itself constitute approval of a warranty claim. Final approval is determined under the applicable manufacturer warranty and applicable law.
9. Labor, Removal and Vessel-Related Costs
Customers should not assume that the manufacturer’s warranty automatically covers costs associated with:
generator removal or reinstallation, vessel haul-out, crane services, marina fees, technician travel, diagnostic labor, freight, customs charges, vessel modifications, loss of vessel use, charter interruption or commercial downtime.
Some manufacturer programs include certain labor or travel costs during specified periods; others provide parts-only coverage.
Any reimbursement is governed by the applicable manufacturer’s warranty and any required authorization.
10. Freight Damage Is Not a Manufacturer Warranty Claim
Shipping damage is generally handled under the applicable freight or shipping-claim process rather than as a manufacturing defect.
Customers receiving a generator by freight should inspect the shipment at delivery whenever practical. Visible damage or shortages should be recorded on the carrier’s delivery documentation and photographed before the product is unpacked or moved.
Please refer to our Shipping Policy for complete delivery-inspection and freight-damage procedures.
11. Parts and Accessories
Replacement parts and accessories may carry warranty terms different from the generator set itself.
Where a manufacturer provides a specific parts warranty, that warranty applies to the eligible component. Westerbeke, for example, publishes separate warranty treatment for parts and accessories from its five-year limited generator-set warranty.
When submitting a parts warranty request, please provide the part number, purchase invoice, generator model and serial number where applicable, quantity and a description or photographs of the reported defect.
12. International Warranty Support
Marine Generators Depot supplies customers domestically and internationally. However, a manufacturer’s warranty-service network and claim procedures may vary by country.
Worldwide supply of a generator does not automatically mean that every manufacturer’s warranty is administered identically in every territory.
Before purchasing for international use, customers may request confirmation of the available manufacturer’s warranty information for the proposed generator and operating region.
Cummins and Fischer Panda are examples of manufacturers that expressly promote worldwide service or warranty support for their applicable marine generator programs.
13. Marine Generators Depot’s Role
Marine Generators Depot assists customers with identifying the warranty applicable to products supplied through us and, where appropriate, with directing warranty enquiries to the relevant manufacturer or service organization.
Unless specifically stated in writing as part of a transaction, Marine Generators Depot does not independently extend, replace or modify a manufacturer’s written warranty.
We also do not represent that every brand or generator carries the same warranty.
This brand-specific approach allows customers to understand the actual warranty applicable to the generator they are purchasing rather than relying on a generic website warranty statement.
14. Changes to Manufacturer Warranty Programs
Manufacturer warranty programs can change.
If a manufacturer changes its warranty after this page has been updated, the warranty applicable to the specific generator, serial number, purchase date and written sale documentation will take precedence over the summary shown on this page.
Customers are welcome to request the applicable manufacturer’s warranty information before placing an order.
15. Statutory Rights
Nothing in this Warranty Policy is intended to exclude or restrict any consumer right or remedy that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.
Manufacturer warranties and this policy operate in addition to any non-waivable rights available under applicable federal, state or other consumer-protection law.
